Why I Don't Offer Dip Manicures & Why Gel Products are the Better Choice

At Polished Happiness Nail Studio, I focus on providing the healthiest, most hygienic, and high-quality nail services for my clients. That's why I choose to specialize in gel manicures, structured gel overlays, and GelX extensions, and why I don't offer dip powder nails. While dip powder has gained popularity, there are several reasons I don't recommend it, from hygiene concerns to improper shaping and frequent soak-offs. Let's break down why gel products are the better choice for long-lasting, beautiful nails.

Why I Don't Offer Dip Powder Nails

1. Dip Powder Is Unhygienic

Many salons use a dip pot method, where multiple clients dip their fingers into the same container of powder. Just thinking about this community powder pot is making my fingers itch. If the possibility of spreading bacteria doesn't concern you, then think about how many times you have received a small cut while having your cuticles trimmed, now you have an open wound that will be plunged into the dip powder, sharing bacteria and blood with strangers, and skyrocketing your risk of infection. Even if a salon uses an individual vessel to dip your fingers into, typically the access powder left over at the service is added right back into the community jar - still causing cross contamination.

2. Dip Powder Doesn't Allow for Proper Shaping and Support for the nail

Unlike builder gel or hard gel, dip powder is applied in multiple layers over the entirety of the natural nail and does't provide the same level of precision when it comes to shaping. Many times, dip nails end up bulky, uneven, or thick near the cuticle area, making the nails look unnatural. As your natural nail grows longer it needs an apex, or high center point, for strength and support which cannot be sculpted with dip powder.

With gel, I can sculpt, refine, and perfect the shape of your nails, whether you want a natural-looking overlay or a structured enhancement.

3. Dip Powder Must Be Soaked Off Completely Each Time

Dip nails cannot be rebalanced or filled, meaning that at every appointment, you must completely soak off the old set and start over. This constant exposure to acetone can lead to dry, brittle nails over time.

Gel products like BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) and hard gel can be rebalanced, meaning only the regrowth area is filled in while keeping the original structure intact. This reduces unnecessary soaking and keeps your natural nails healthier.

To recap: Here is Why I Prefer Gel Products Over Dip Powder

More Sanitary, No risk of bacteria from shared dip jars.

Better Shaping & Precision, Gel allows for smooth, natural-looking nails.

Healthier for Your Nails, No excessive soaking or removal process.

More Versatile, Options like structured gel manicures and GelX extensions offer better durability and flexibility for different nail types.

The Bottom Line

Dip powder may seem convenient, but it doesn't offer the same benefits as high-quality gel services. At Polished Happiness Nail Studio, I prioritize nail health, hygiene, and beautiful, long-lasting results, which is why I choose gel-based products. Whether you need a structured gel manicure, a hard gel overlay, or lightweight GelX extensions, I'm here to help you achieve strong, gorgeous nails in the safest way possible!
